Obituary for Adella Frances King (Mracek)

Adella Frances King (Mracek)
KING, Adella Frances (nee Mracek)
February 19, 1922 - April 15, 2014

Peacefully, surrounded by family, Adella was rewarded with eternal life. Daughter of the late Albert Mracek and Annie Urban. Beloved wife of Andrew Harold King. Cherished mother of Carolyn (Mike), Lawrence (Lorna), Christopher (Johanna), Janet, Karen (Rick), Lloyd (Sandra). Adored by her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her brother, Bert and her sisters, Pearl and Dorothy.

Born in Druid, Saskatchewan, this prairie girl relocated to Ottawa to work for the federal government. Adella joined the CWAC at the start of the war and served at Landsdowne Park after basic training. This farm girl met a big city fellow whose musical skills in the Cameron Highlander Pipe Band thrilled her. Harold courted Adella on long walks along the Rideau Canal, and their military wedding on August 15, 1944 included the full band marching from Landsdowne Park to St. Theresa's Church, followed by a wedding breakfast at the Chateau Laurier. Adella and Harold remained in Ottawa after the war and raised their fortunate family to appreciate and respect old-fashioned values. Adella loved whole-heartedly and enjoyed making every holiday a special occasion complete with a homemade feast where all were welcome.

Strong and determined, Adella embodied all that we should hope to be.

A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1758 Alta Vista Drive. Reception to follow in the parish hall.
